Mind your money; make your riches

If you want more money in your life, consider how mindful you are about it.

If this sounds like a psychological prod, maybe even spiritual, it is.

The biggest mistake I see people make with money, is not having a clue why they are chasing it and or what they are doing with the money they presently have. And until such time as they formulate an intention, desire and direction, they’re doomed to stay on the money treadmill.

Even so called ‘rich folks’ end up getting stuck in financial purgatory when they stop being mindful about their finances. The stated direction might simply be growth but unshackled from defined dreams and goals, even the money management gets messy.

Its equally problematic for those lacking in money because they tend not to have the structures in place that would help them to grow their money to a size where they can do something with it, other  than simply survive.

It’s normal for people to be uncertain about what they want to do because we don’t often give ourselves permission to dream about the life we really want. And sometimes the life we thought we wanted, changes or we outgrow it over time forcing us to rediscover who we are and what we really want out of life.

Thankfully our choices are not set in stone and most people, whether they want to acknowledge it or not, do have agency to choose a new direction. The difference between those who orchestrate change and those who stay stuck comes down to courage, creativity and action.

So the starting point for me with clients who want to do better with their money is probing them to do some self-examination first ahead of charting a course.  This is the mind stuff of money. Getting clear on how you want to live your life, with whom, doing what and where, takes precedence over the technical aspects of money management.

This is the case with both the rich and the poor, although I don’t particularly like using those terms because they are subjective and relative.

Some rich folks think they’re poor.  Others who may be considered poor ~ because they have less wealth ~ are living abundant lives because they’re richer in non-numeric ways that hold a higher real life value.

Find your flow and the money will follow.
