Auckland Executive Club
Last night, I checked off five from five in the list of mistakes that Amanda Morrall shared with The Auckland Executive Club about the mistakes smart women make when it comes to investing 😜
Thankfully, most of those mistakes are in my rearview mirror, but a refresher never hurts!
Alongside the five mistakes (fear, excessive fees, not understanding risk, under-contributing, and perfectionism), Amanda gave us simple, practical tips that we could put into action right away.
In fact, while Amanda was talking, I checked my investment balances, and then dropped into my banking app to up my monthly contributions.

Then I went back and upped them again, because I realised that the fear-factor was nudging me to hoard cash where I could easily access it, but where it is getting me vastly lower compounding returns compared to my well-performing, low-fees investment accounts.
One of the things Amanda said right at the end of her presentation really hit home - the market doesn't reward perfection; it rewards participation.
And that right there is a life lesson, leadership lesson, friendship lesson and so much more.
When we hang back on the sidelines because we don't know exactly how the game will turn out, we miss out on so much. We don't have to be perfect to get in the game, we just have to start. The longer we're in the game, the more we'll learn and the better we'll become.”
